First blog in Korea

It had been a long time I never write my blog.

This is the first time, the first blog I updated my blog, when I am in Korea now.

South Korea, Seoul.

I never dream that I can come to this country,

it is almost unreachable for me, as I come from an average family.

There are many uncertainties in our lives, I always have this belief.

After my high-school, I never thought of getting scholarship, but it happened;

I never thought of going abroad to study, but it happened;

I never thought of getting student-exchange program,

as this program is designed for those "outstanding students", I was not one of them,

but it happened...

Seoul, from newspaper, this is a city with high-technology.

I experienced this, when I tried to subscribe to their mobile phone postpaid service.

As an actuarial science student, I should have familiar with numbers,

but still, I was confused with the payment that I should pay for the contract.

Eventually, I gave up on it.

According to my "heong" (the so-called "brother" in Korean culture),

even though he is a Korean too, he was confused by the payment as well.

We were scolded by the shopkeeper (of course), because we were perplexed by her for 2 hours!

After that, we went to drink soju again.

Due to the stupid curfew of my hostel that locked the gate at 12am,

I was forced to sleep overnight at my heong's room.

That was really a special day in my life. 2 nights 1 day...

"What is the main difference between studying in Beijing and Seoul?", my friends used to ask.

And I always replied them "The number of beautiful girls here!";

"Are they natural or after plastic surgery?";

"Whatever! At least they are better than 'Original Pork-Chops'!". Lolz

The language problem.

Well, although I can guess roughly what people trying to talk to me, in Korean,

but I could hardly express myself to them, due to my poor grammar and vocabulary.

Sometimes, I misunderstood what others were trying to tell me,

and of course, at most time, people couldn't understand what was I trying to tell.

Okay, I admit that my Korean is not good, and I will try my best to upgrade it.

Really hope that I can speak fluent Korean before I leave this place.

Korea University, this is a real globalized university.

30% of the courses are conducted in English, although my professor of Survey Theory used to explain in Korean;

The Office of International Affairs has 3 counters, with students who can speak Chinese, English and Japanese at the counters to help international students, we never had this in Beijing;

International Herald Tribune and Financial Times, the 2 most popular international newspapers, are distributed for free everyday in our school.

Of course there are more things that make the students convenient.

MBA.

The business school here is really good.

And I found that I loved business-, management-related courses more, rather than actuarial.

If there is a chance in future, when Great Eastern allows me to,

when I have enough money to finance myself,

I will choose this school to study MBA.

Anyway, I know that my root is not here.

It's human normality that we tend to treat people of same race better,

so, even though Koreans are kind to foreigners,

but I hope someday I could find a place which can treat me as the real citizen of the country.

Perhaps this is just a dream, discrimination exists in every way.

But, does it really matter to find such place for myself?

I will tell you in future.
